Running for District Office

One of the most important parts of District Convention is the election of the District's Staff. The Staff is comprised of the Governor, the Secretary, the Treasurer, the Editor, and the Convention Liaison. All of these with the exception of the Convention Liaison (A position appointed by the District Governor) are voted on, first by Regional Caucuses and finally by the House of Delegates. All interested in running for a District Staff position must be present at District Convention. Becoming part of the Staff is a great way to further your career in Key Club and offers a more hands-on approach to making the District the best it can be. See what some of our Past and Present District Staff members have to say about their experiences below:

"While serving as a district officer has certainly required a lot of hard work, I would not trade this experience for anything. The leadership and time management skills that I have gained will definitely help me to excel in college and beyond."

-Jeni Prater

District Secretary, 2009-2010

"Being a part of the District Staff has been an amazing experience. Not only has it allowed me to grow as a person and meet lots of outstanding people, but I have been given the opportunity to see the District prosper through my term. Working so hard to recharter clubs and to help build membership, and then seeing the product of that work is truly one of the most rewarding gifts of my life."

-Misty Jackson

District Treasurer, 2009-2010

Division 32 Lt. Governor, 2008-2009

"Being on the District Staff was probably the best experience of my life. I met some of the most amazing people, formed what I hope to be life-long friendships, and learned so much. It teaches you responsibility, makes you learn things about yourself that you never knew, and puts you into situations that you would have ordinarily never been in. It was hard work and stressful at times, but I don't regret a single moment of it. What Key Club is and represents will forever and always be my way of life."

-Christine Shang

District Editor, 2008-2009

"Serving on the District Staff gave me the chance to develop my leadership skills on a level that affected a significant number of people. It helped me learn how to effectively create plans and gain support for my ideas. I learned how to help bridge the gap between those serving others and those being served. It proved to be more valuable than I could have imagined and the hard work was well worth the experience I gained."

-Steven Spriggs

Convention Liaison, 2008-2009

Division 18 Lt. Governor, 2008-2009

"Being a staff member has been the best experience that I have had in my life thus far. Not only did I have a blast while gaining leadership and organizational skills, I was able to give back to the organization that gave so much to me. All the hard work that being a staff member requires is greatly worth it."

-Sarah Haagen

District Secretary, 2008-2009

Division 39N Lt. Governor, 2007-2008

"Being a part of the District Staff was like being part of something bigger than myself. It taught me the values of hard work, organization, friendship, and of course service. I encourage everyone who might have the slightest interest in it to run for District Staff. It is a rewarding position that I consider one of the most important experiences of my life."

-John Danaher

District IT Specialist, 2008-2010

District Treasurer, 2007-2008

Division 30 Lt. Governor, 2006-2007

"Serving as District Secretary transformed my time in Key Club from 'just another extracurricular activity' to a passion. I grew through leadership and maybe more so, through the relationships I formed with fellow staff. I allowed myself the opportunity to blossom as a student and individual and today, whole-heartedly believe that my time on district staff, more than any other single thing, set me on the best possible path to enter college and eventually, what they call the 'real world.'"

-Brenda Luttrell

District Secretary, 2006-2007

Division 30 Lt. Governor, 2005-2006
